Sestrel Henry Browne & Son Ltd, Barking & London Submarine Radio Clock

This clock is from a radio room in a submarine. The red sections at 15 minutes and 45 minutes past the hour represent the radio silence and listening periods on 500khz for 3 minutes. These periods must be observed by all stations as 500khz was one of the international bands for emergency and distress. The silence period gave the station in distress the best chance of being heard and was therefore strictly monitored. This is believed to be one of the safety rules that the RMS Titanic did not obey before its tragic end.

*Condition*

The clock is in good condition, no damage other than general light wear from use. No key present. Not tested and approx 21cm diameter.
