Bujutsu is an umbrella term that covers all of the traditional Japanese martial arts such as Kenjutsu, SoJutsu, JoJutsu and so on and was originally the sole preserve of the Samurai though nowadays Bujutsu techniques are practiced by many people around the world.
For over 800 years, samurai served as warriors, rulers, and members of the aristocratic elite in Japanese society. From the twelfth century until the Meiji Restoration in 1868, the Shōgun, regional lords, and their warrior retainers governed the country, adhering to a rigorous code of ethics. This feudal military aristocracy in Japan sought a life characterized by spiritual harmony, mastering not only the art of war but also embracing a deep appreciation for the fine arts, transforming their existence into an art form.
