*R&R Middleton Hand-Made Bowie Knife with Stag Horn Head and Eagle's Head Pommel and Sheath*

This is an impressive original Large Bowie Knife made in Sheffield by Ron & Roy Middleton Sheffield sons of J.E. Middleton. It has a perfect 9” long deep swept Bowie blade which is a broad 1 ¾” at its widest edge. The back of the blade has scalloped tool work. The knife measures 14 ½” overall. The ricasso is stamped with the Knife makers name 'R.R. Middleton, Sheffield'. It has a brass cross guard and dramatic stylized Eagle's Head pommel. The handle is made of beautifully curved Stag horn and it is complete with its brown leather sheath. The rear of the sheath has a single belt loop impressed ‘RM’. All stitching & leather of the sheath are intact.

There have been Middletons grinding, finishing and making knives since the early 1800's. After being a bound apprentice working for his uncle Thomas Middleton, living in the family home on the premises of George Wolstenholme's works, Joseph Edwin Middleton set up business on his own account doing out work for most of the large cutlery firms in Sheffield, as was the usual practice. In 1888 when his sons were old enough, he set up 'Joseph Edwin Middleton & Sons'. His oldest son, also called Joseph Edwin was the grandfather of Ron and Roy. The last Joseph Edwin Middleton was killed in France in 1918. His youngest son George, had two sons. Ron and Roy who made high quality knives until recently. Ron started in 1946 and Roy in 1950, they are both now sadly deceased.
