Sergeant George Stead, a valiant member of the Royal Flying Corps (RFC), met his untimely end in 1917 while serving his country during the tumultuous years of World War I. His sacrifice and dedication exemplify the courage and commitment of those who took to the skies in defense of freedom and justice. This item is a trench art shell, commemorating Sgt George Stead and his sacrifice. Engraved are his rank, name, number 2119 and “18th Squadron” along with the RFC crest higher on the shell. It has its original markings on the base of the shell with the date 1917.
