~ Rare Shape Circa 1920 Karl Griesbaum Automaton Singing Bird Cage Music Box Good Working Order ~

The piece is unusual in that the stand is rectangular rather than the more regular cylindrical one.

The colourful feathered bird with bead eyes waggles his tail, rotates this head, has a moving lower beak and tweets a merry bird song.

She resides in a gilt brass cage and is perched on a stand over a green base.

The body is of etched brass, with painted details and stands on four peg feet. to the underside is the fixed in place winding key and to the side is the on off lever.

The Griesbaum company was founded in 1905 in the town of Triberg, Schwarzwald (Black Forest), Germany. Its founder Karl Griesbaum was born in 1872 and founded an automaton company specializing in songbirds. Germany at the start of the 20th century.

~ Condition ~

The music box is in a great, tidy, vintage condition. The mechanism was recently serviced by the prior owner (who restores these beauties) and is in perfect working order.

~ Dimensions ~

The piece is 23 cm (9 inches) tall, 12 cm (4.75 inches) wide and 10 cm (4 inches) deep.
