G3 magazine dated 8/65, 7005-12-127-7057, diamond in a circle for Rheinmetall
This is a Portuguese made G3, dated Feb 1983 together with a German made - Rheinmetall - magazine dated August 1965. Notable features include green plastic furniture and an ergonomically moulded pistol grip, classic type front end and black metalwork. A nice design feature are the two holes in the fixed stock – they are to store take down pins when the gun is disassembled.
The Heckler & Koch G3 (Gewehr 3) is a select-fire battle rifle chambered for the 7.62×51mm NATO cartridge. Developed in the 1950s by German firearms manufacturer Heckler & Koch in collaboration with the Spanish state-owned company CETME, the G3 became the standard service rifle of the German Bundeswehr. It remained in service until the 1990s, when it was replaced by the Heckler & Koch G36. The G3 was also widely adopted by numerous other nations.
FMP stands for Fábrica de Braço de Prata, a Portuguese arms manufacturer. Portugal selected the G3 as the standard service rifle for its armed forces, and in 1962, FMP began licensed production of the G3, manufacturing components, parts, and completing final assembly. Notably, West Germany also ordered 50,000 Portuguese-made G3 rifles for its own armed forces.
