Though not heavily involved in modern conflicts, Poland's strategic position prompted its entry into the Warsaw Pact, aligning it with the Soviet Union and granting it a role in producing AK-pattern rifles. After the 1957 Soviet aid mission to Bulgaria, Poland obtained the rights to manufacture the Type 3 AK-47. This example is an early Polish AK-47, produced in 1962 at the Radom factory, marked with the "11" in a circle—Radom’s manufacturer code. (Notably, during World War II, the Radom plant was seized by the Germans and used to produce weapons for the Nazis.)
