A jambiya, also known as a shibriyeh in the Levant, is a type of dagger with a short curved blade featuring a central ridge. Its origin can be traced to the Hadhramaut Governorate region of Yemen. The name "jambia" is derived from the Arabic word "janb," which means "side," as it's typically worn on a person's side.
The distinctive feature of the jambia is its curved blade, which naturally angles toward the opponent. This eliminates the need to twist the wrist during use, making it a more comfortable stabbing weapon compared to straight-bladed knives.
This particular jambiya boasts a 14.5cm double-edged blade and measures 26cm in total length. Its decorative scabbard, known as 'Asib, is metal adorned with silverwork and features semi-precious stones, with one on the scabbard and two on the grip.
*Condition*
This jambiya is in excellent condition. The blade is sharp, there are some scratching marks - possibly sharpening marks on the blade. The grip is in good condition with some denting to the pommel. The scabbard is in good condition but the fit is loose. The decorative elements are intact and there are a few minor dings and scratches commensurate with age. Please see photographs as part of the condition report.
