The Auxiliary Fire Service was a civilian organization that was formed in the UK during World War II to supplement the work of the National Fire Service. The AFS helmet is a modified version of the military Brodie helmet and it has a white painted "AFS” on the front to identify it as a fire fighting helmet.

The AFS played a critical role in firefighting during the Blitz, and the organization was staffed by volunteers who worked long hours to protect civilians and property from the bombing raids. The AFS was eventually merged with the National Fire Service in 1941. This particular helmet has both the painted “AFS” acronym and the NFS logo and the identification number 24.

*Condition*

This helmet is in good condition with some damage to the paint work and slight pitting. The liner and strap are strong and intact. Please see pictures for more detail.
