Original WW2 Dated 1941 German K98 Bayonet, Steel Scabbard and Leather Belt Frog

This is an original K98 bayonet which was used with the Kar 98k, the Seitengewehr (sidearm) M1884/98 Third Pattern or SG. 84/98 III for short. The bayonet has the serial number 7473, followed by C. 41 on the spine and ab on the reverse. 41 indicates that the bayonet was manufactured in 1941 . The outbreak of war created a need to obscure the identity of arms makers, namely to avoid exposing war production plants to aerial bombing raids and so codes were adopted, ab indicates that this blade was made by Mundlos AG, Magdeburg Nord. On the pommel are two small waffenampts (the government inspection stamps found on most World War II era German military equipment.) The marking consists of a straight winged eagle over “WaA” followed by what looks like the numbers 243 (straight winged eagles were used from 1937/8).

The steel scabbard is numbered 9969. The leather frog has the manufacture's details etched on the reverse ' E.O. Goetz & Son, Gersdorf. 1940'.

Mundlow & Company of Magdeburg (Mundlos AG) was a sewing machine manufacturer /distributor. They came into existence in 1863, as one of the many German competitors to Singer and the various British sewing machine makers. Mundlos survived World War II and remained in business into the 1960s.

E.O. Goetz and Son was a known manufacturer of military equipment during World War II. They produced a variety of leather goods, including bayonet frogs, holsters, and other related items for the German military.

*Condition*
Please refer to the images for condition. Both the bayonet and scabbard are in tidy order, the blade is mostly unpitted and retains the blue finish. The button works well. The leather belt frog is missing one rivet and shows the expected signs of wear and tear for an article of this vintage.
