The deactivated Kommandantur Lille flare pistol was made in occupied France for the Germans during World War 1. The term “Kdtur Lille” shows that the production of the pistol was ordered by the Kommandantur which was the military command or headquarters responsible for the administration and control of an area.
Flare pistols were used to send various signal flares, including illumination flares, smoke flares, and colored flares, which allowed for different types of visual signals. These signals could convey important messages, indicate positions, or communicate specific instructions between units.
Th gun’s length is approximately 15 inches overall with a 7 inch barrel.
