*Original German WW2 Pin: Miniature WW1 Iron Cross 1914 with WWII Wiederholungsspange 1939 Spange, by J. Preissler, Pforzheim, in Original Box.*

On September 1st, 1939, Hitler reintroduced the Iron Cross awards, and one of them was the Clasp to the Iron Cross (Spange zum Eisernen Kreuz). This white metal medal clasp was worn by German Wehrmacht personnel who had received the Iron Cross in World War I and qualified for it again in World War II. To allow both awards to be worn together, a "1939 Clasp" was created to be worn with the original 1914 Iron Cross.

The clasp featured a design with a national eagle holding an oak leaf wreath around a swastika above a trapezoid bearing the year 1939. Over 100,000 of these clasps were awarded during the war. The first pattern had slightly scalloped tips on the date bar, later replaced by the second pattern with diagonally angled ends.

Recipients could purchase a jeweler's copy of the award for everyday wear, keeping the actual award safe. This particular example is a miniature detailed 1914 Iron Cross with a 1939 clasp. It is made of silvered bunt metal, depicting a national eagle with outstretched wings, an oak-leaf wreath, a swastika, and a date bar with diagonally angled ends. The back of the pin is marked by the maker, Preissler of Pforzheim, and includes a rifled stickpin.
