*Norweigan, c.1968, M1968 or AG3 Type 1 Knife Bayonet, with Original Scabbard, for Automatgevaer 3 Rifle (AG-3), (Variant of German H&K G3 Bayonet)*

16.9cm blade, 29.5cm overall

The Norwegian Model 1968 Knife Bayonet, was designed for use with the Automatgevaer 3 Rifle (AG-3), which was a licensed production of the H&K G3A5 by Kongsberg Våpenfabrikk in Norway. Introduced into the Norwegian Army (Hæren) service in 1967, 250000 units of the AG3 rifle were produced at Kongsberg Våpenfabrikk until its manufacturing ceased in 1974.

Initially, the M1968/AG3 bayonets were crafted by Carl Eickhorn Waffenfabrik in Germany. Subsequent production took place at Kongsberg Våpenfabrikk. This particular example is likely an Eickhorn bayonet, given the absence of the Kongsberg factory stamp.

The Norwegian M1968 measures 295mm in total length, with a 169mm blade. Featuring an oval cross-section pommel and grip, the hilt is shorter than other G3 bayonets. The design of the short hilt eliminates the need for a flash guard, as it fits behind the slots in the rifle's flash-hider when the bayonet is fixed. The blued steel pommel is fixed to the blade tang, with one end of the hollow spring-pin visible on the pommel's reverse. The catch's operating surface is smooth, lacking the usual ridges and grooves. The textured, olive-colored plastic grip provides a secure hold and is unique among G3 bayonets. The blued steel cross-guard has a narrow plain pattern, and the Parkerized blade diverges from the typical reversed cutting edge found on G3 bayonets.

The scabbard follows the U.S. M8A1 pattern, featuring an olive webbing hanger and a wood-grain body. Its mounts are made of Parkerised steel and include a chape with a large thong-hole, securely pinned to the body.

*Condition*
This bayonet with its correct scabbard are in excellent condition with some minor age relating scratches and general wear and tear. The scabbard fits securely. Please see photographs as part of the condition report.
