Mounted WWI 1907 Relic Pattern Hooked Quillion Bayonet From Galipoli Bayonets

Out of stock

An emotive relic from the Great War.

This is the early variant of the 1907 pattern bayonet for the SMLE with the rare hooked quillion.

It is mounted on a piece of timber with a bullet hole.

The brass plaque reads...

"Found In The Galipoli Peninsula Turkey"

~ 1907 Hooked Quillion Bayonet ~

The bayonet featured a hooked lower quillion, intended to be used to trap and snap enemy bayonets when grappling, this was later deemed impractical and replaced with a simpler design from 1913, often unit armourers subsequently removed the hooked quillion when the bayonet went for repair, although there is no evidence that this was officially directed.

~ Dimensions ~

The bayonet is 52.0 cm (20.5 inches) in length with a 39.5 cm (15,5 inches) blade.

The wooden mount is 55.0 cm (21.5 inches) in length with a 11.5 cm (4.5 inches) height.

~ Condition ~

Obviously, a dug up, the bayonet is heavily pitted but nicely conserved
