Mounted Wild Boar’s Head Trophy, Taxidermy on Wooden Plaque
A superb mounted wild boar’s head trophy, presented on a shaped wooden backboard. Measuring approximately 69.5cm tall, 49.5cm wide, and 56cm deep, this striking taxidermy mount captures the coarse bristled coat, upright ears, and naturalistic features of the European wild boar (Sus scrofa). The mount is well-executed, with strong facial character and mounted glass eyes.
Historical Note:
Wild boar hunting has deep roots in European history, prized as one of the most dangerous and prestigious quarry animals since medieval times. Trophy heads such as this were traditionally displayed in hunting lodges and gentlemen’s collections as both decorative features and reminders of the hunt. While many boar trophies emphasise exaggerated tusks, this example reflects the natural appearance of a younger boar, making it a rarer and more honest representation.
*Condition*
In overall very good condition, with excellent bristle coverage and natural colour tones. The mounted eyes remain intact and lifelike. The jaw and teeth show natural age-related wear, typical of vintage taxidermy mounts. The shield retains a rich finish with light surface scuffing to the reverse. A strong, characterful display piece. Please see photographs as part of the condition report.
