~ Mid 19th Century Carved Scottish Powder Horn Flask ~

Here we have a delightfully carved powder flask presumed to be from Scotland.

From the motifs used it appears this flask was carved in the early to mid 19th century.

The horn is carved with a figure of Britannia under the inscription ‘Still Britannia Rules The Waves’. On the other side there is a male figure under the inscription ‘Sir, William Walace’.

There is also a poem ‘Some praie the costly cups of gold, And holds them most divine, But give me the horn of old, When filled with rum or wine’.

The flask is 19 inches (48 cm) long.

The flask is 3 inches (7.5 cm) at the base

The flask weighs 510g.

~ Condition ~

The flask is in good condition for its age with minor cosmetic wear but clear inscriptions and carvings. It does not have the smaller end stopper.
