~ London 1902 Sterling Silver Royal Irish Fusiliers Cigarette Box Presented to Capt. A.W.D Gaussen ~
The box is of sterling silver, sitting on four feet with the traditional cedar wood interior with two moveable partitions.
It is hallmarked for London, 1902 with a makers mark of ‘WD’.
The box is engraved to the top with the crest of the Royal Irish Fusiliers 5th Battalion and underneath it reads:
Presented by J. Leslie (commanding Roy’. Irish Fusilier Mil Bgd) and Officers Monaghan Regt (5th Batt. Ryl Irish Fusiliers) to Capt. A.W.D. Gaussen Highland Lt Infantry, their Adjutant, in recognition of his ability & as a souvenir of their regard & esteem. Monaghan, 1907.
In one of the images is a watercolour of Colonel Gaussen, this is not included in the sale.
~ Dimensions ~
The box measures 9.5cm (3 ¾ inches) by 20cm (8 inches) with a height of 8.5cm (3 ¼ inches).
It weighs 755g.
~ Condition ~
There are a couple of small dings to one side and a little tarnish in parts, though the majority of tarnish can be removed with a good polishing.
The case is otherwise in very good condition with minimal wear.
