~ Late 19thC Ashworth Yedo Pattern Tureen Set In Green ~
A fine 4 piece ironstone tureen set by the Staffordshire potters G.L. Ashworth & Bros, dating from the period of 1861-1891.
The set consists of three lidded tureens of increasing size and a large serving platter.
They are all finished in the Chinese style ‘Yedo’ pattern which mainly consists of flowers with a fence or gate motif.
Unusually the Yedo pattern on these pieces is in green with gilt highlights. It is more often found in simple blue and white.
All the pieces are marked for Ashworth, with various different marks. Most have the impressed ‘Ashworth’ mark, some with the initials ‘BB’ among others while a couple of the pieces have an applied stamp of ‘ABros’ with crown and banner reading ‘Yedo’ (pattern name).
A couple of the pieces are stamped with a design registry mark, unfortunately the print is rather shallow so some details including the year date cannot be read.
