*Late 19th Century, Figural Head Sword Stick, Solingen Blade, Ottoman / Turkish Style Handle*

A late 19th century sword stick / sword cane with cast white metal figural head handle and concealed Solingen-marked blade, of typical Victorian period construction. The cane is fitted with a stylised human head pommel in white metal (possibly aluminium or similar alloy), the form in the Ottoman / Turkish style, mounted to a metal collar and attached to a black lacquered shaft with brass ferrule. The interior houses a long, narrow blade of square / flattened section, the blade stamped Solingen, indicating German manufacture, and showing age and wear consistent with period examples.

Approx. Measurements – Blade length: 69.7 cm. Overall length (sword): 80.5 cm. Overall length (walking stick): 87 cm. Head length: 6 cm.

Historical Note:
Sword sticks of this type were widely produced in Europe during the late 19th century, with blades commonly supplied from Solingen in Germany, then mounted into decorative canes for civilian use. Figural handles were popular in the Victorian period, often inspired by Oriental, Ottoman, or theatrical styles, intended to give the appearance of an ordinary walking stick while concealing a defensive blade. The use of light white metal for the handle suggests late Victorian manufacture, when aluminium and similar alloys began to appear in decorative fittings.

*Condition*
Good antique condition overall with honest age-related wear. The blade shows surface corrosion, pitting, and loss of finish but remains solid, the Solingen mark visible. The handle has minor marks and wear consistent with age. The shaft retains its black finish with scratches and small losses. Brass ferrule worn with age. The sword draws and returns correctly. Please see photographs as part of the condition report.
