Late 17th Century Spanish Fine Decorated Flintlock Pistol

Most probably manufactured for a high status person, this flintlock pistol has been highly decorated with silver work and cabochon stones.

The top of its wooden grip is decorated with floral silver relief embroidery, foliage decorated brass fittings and pyrogravured wooden stock.

The partially hexagonal steel barrel, fitted with a frontal sight, bears a monogram on each side along with two Spanish proof marks and a number of traditional decorations.

The top of the barrel is stamped with a succession of 0 and 3 numbers.

The lockplate, the hammer and the frizzen are decorated in a similar manner.

The decorations are of Mayan and Aztec inspiration suggesting that this pistol may be a Spanish colonial piece.

~ Dimensions ~

The barrel length is 12.40 inches (31.5 cm) and the overall length of the piece is 20 inches (51 cm).

It weighs 1 Kg.

~ Condition ~

The pistol half cocks, cocks and releases. Its main spring and the frizzen spring weakened due to its age.

The woodwork remains in good condition with a minor crack on the muzzle section and chips around the pommels lower edge.

The bore has minor surface rust inside but its overall condition is good.
