~ Late 16th Century Maltese Powder Flask ~
This late 16th century powder flask is velvet covered wood reinforced with a steel frame. In the centre of the front side is the Maltese star.
The frame is attached in place with three large screws.
The reverse side is fitted with a belt hook.
A rope connects both sides of the flask.
A very fine design feature is the powder measured at the mouth of the flask. Due to a double spring system, one that opens/closes a trapdoor inside the flask and another one that opens/closes the lid on the top, a certain dosage of the powder is permitted.

The flask has a width of 8.6 inches (22cm) and a height of 10.6 inches (27 cm).
It weighs 0.71 Kg.
~ Condition ~
The flask is in good condition for its age with no major damage. The velvet is worn and the steel is lightly rusted.
