A lovely early-mid 20th century Japanese black lacquer musical jewellery box.

The box is in the form of a chest, decorated in black lacquer with inlaid mother of pearl edging and hand painted with images of flowers and a bird.

The lid opens to reveal several compartments and a mirror on the back of the lid hand-painted with trees and mountains.

When the lid is opened the box plays a song, the mechanism being wound by a key to the underside.

The box is lockable and is complete with key.

~ Dimensions ~

The box measures 18.5cm (7 ¼ inches) by 12.5cm (5 inches) with a height of 10cm (4 inches).

It weighs 740g.

~ Condition ~

The material inside could do with a little cleaning (mainly years of dust rather than staining) but is generally in good order.

The box has a couple of tiny chips to the lacquer but is overall in a very nice condition.
