Here we have a rather interesting sword stick that I would estimate is from the late 19th century.
The sword is a quadraform steel ‘spike’ rather than a traditional sword and it has been housed inside a lacquered length of bamboo with silver mountings.
The most exquisite part of this sword stick is the cap which is in the form of a cloisonné egg covered with a blue background, a floral design and a gold inlaid repeated pattern. The egg is incredible and is possibly a one of a kind piece commissioned in the period when Japanese art and style was all the rage in the US and Europe.
~ Dimensions ~
The cane is 36 inches (91 cm) long.
The blade is 21 inches (53 cm) long.
The cane weighs 240g.
~ Condition ~
The cane is in excellent condition aside from some slight lifting of the lacquer over the bamboo.
