The OTO Melara 76mm gun, also known as the OTO 76/62 Gun Mount, is a naval autocannon developed by the Italian defense company OTO Melara. It is one of the most popular naval guns ever produced, with OTO-Melara reporting that about 1,000 Compact and SR guns were in service in 51 navies around the world as of December 2002. This weapon is produced under license in Australia, India, Japan, Spain and USA.
Compact enough to be installed on relatively small warships, the system's versatility lies in its high rate of fire and its compatibility with multiple types of ammunition, making it effective for a variety of roles, such as short-range anti-missile point defense, anti-aircraft operations, anti-surface engagement, and ground support.
