~ Harold Wyllie (1880-1975) Etching Of A Liner Off Southampton Waters With Biplanes Overhead ~

A fine etching by the marine artist Harold Wyllie, son of W. L. Wyllie.

The piece has no title but the subject is of a twin funnel liner at steam in the foreground, in an estuary with other vessels. Three bi-planes fly above possibly indicating a Great War convoy is about to take place with the liner as a troop ship and the aeroplanes as anti-submarine escorts. The picture dates to around the 1920’s. The picture dates to around the 1920’s. In the background is the coast line of Southampton water, hangers of the Royal Flying Corp Calshot Naval Air Station and Calshot castle.

The etching is signed by the artist to the lower left.

The etching is presented in its original single mounted, glazed frame.

The etching measures 12 inches (30.5cm) by 6 ½ inches (17cm). The frame measures 22 inches (56cm) by 15 ½ inches (39cm). It weighs 1.470Kg.

~ Condition ~

The etching is in lovely condition with no fading or foxing.

The frame is in decent order though a little scuffed.
