*Hammered English Pewter Tankard – Hunts Junior Cup Winners 1952*
A charming mid-20th-century English pewter tankard, crafted in a fully hammered finish with a simple strap handle and rolled lip. The underside is stamped ENGLISH PEWTER, a standard maker’s mark used by several quality pewterers during the 1930s–1950s period. One side is neatly engraved:
HUNTS JUNIOR CUP WINNERS 1952
Measurements: approx. 9.8 cm tall, 9.1 cm base diameter, 6.5–7 cm top diameter.
Historical Note: Hammered pewter vessels enjoyed a strong revival in the interwar and post-war decades, influenced by Arts and Crafts design and the popularity of hand-textured finishes. Sports and youth organisations frequently ordered small engraved pewter pieces as awards or presentation items.
*Condition* The tankard displays general age patina throughout, with expected surface marks and wear from handling. The hammered pattern remains crisp. The engraving is clear and well-preserved. Interior shows uniform dulling and light residue from past use. No dents, splits or structural issues observed. Handle tight and secure. Please see photographs as part of the condition report.
