~ Goose Or Live Pigeon Gun By Child Of London Gentleman's Sporting Musket ~
A well-balanced, quality 10 Bore sporting musket in the configuration of a 'live' trap gun.
It is a mid-Victorian English piece from circa 1855.
The musket is half-stocked and loaded by a tooled external ramrod.
The barrel is a heavy 34" one of 10 Bore, being browned, Damascene twist tapered.
The foiliate engraved furniture on a well chequered walnut stock.
The maker's name to the lock with address and proofs (under the hook breeched detachable barrel breach).
It is a well-balanced gun in fabulous condition and with an immaculate heavy bore to take either ball or shot.
So a versatile, well-balanced musket which could also be used as a ball gun - back in the day for big game.
Please note the Goose / Live Pigeon Guns were never designed to house a ramrod under the barrel, and were designed for balance and aesthetics. Plus also fast 'snap' sighting acquisition on the field of a fast-moving target. They were the forerunners for the lines and design of the modern sporting shotgun or big game rifle.
RamRods for this type of arm tended to also have the tooled worm attachment and were carried as a separate item by somebody nominated as a loader (or second). Guns are sometimes carried as a matched pair or two alike models (exactly weighted & balanced the same). Therefore, no ramrod is provided with these guns.
