*German,WW2, Army (Heer) M1935 Dagger Hangers (Dolchgehänge), by Assmann*
A matching pair of original German Army (Heer) dagger hangers for the Model 1935 officer’s dagger (Heeresdolch), constructed in the regulation two-strap configuration. The hangers retain their original aluminium flat-wire woven upper surfaces, backed with green felt, and are fitted with silver-washed alloy fittings throughout.
All metal components—including the rear connector, buckles, slides, oval rings and dagger clips—are injection-moulded alloy, as correct for Army issue. The decorative fittings are finely detailed with oak leaf and acorn motifs, while the oval suspension rings show the correct pebbled edge detail. Both dagger clips remain fully functional.
One clip is clearly stamped with the stylised “A” trademark Assmann & Söhne, Lüdenscheid, a well-known and respected manufacturer of Third Reich edged-weapon fittings.
The grommets and prongs are steel, as expected, and all components are secured by the original twin hanger straps.
Historical Note:
The M1935 Army dagger hangers were introduced alongside the Heeresdolch to replace earlier leather suspension systems, offering a more refined and uniform appearance for officers’ wear. Assmann of Lüdenscheid was one of the principal wartime suppliers of dagger furniture and accoutrements, producing high-quality fittings for the Army, Luftwaffe and Party organisations. Hangers of this type were worn with the dagger suspended from the belt or brocade sash, forming an essential component of the complete officer’s sidearm ensemble.
*Condition*
A genuine period set showing honest service wear throughout. The aluminium wire remains largely intact with expected age dulling and minor fraying in places. Green felt backing remains present to both straps. Silver wash to fittings shows wear and patina consistent with age. Clips function correctly. No major damage or repairs noted. Please see photographs as part of the condition report.
