*German, WWII, Third Reich Deutsche Volkspflege (German Social Welfare) Leader’s Dagger Hangers – Dolchgehänge für Führer*
An original pair of Second World War Deutsche Volkspflege (German Social Welfare Organisation) leader’s dagger hangers, constructed in the regulation style for senior officials.
The buckles, upper back connector and decorative sliding bands are produced in injection-moulded aluminium alloy (Leichtmetall) with a silver wash finish. Each fitting displays a finely executed random pebbled texture, typical of mid-period political accoutrement manufacture. The lower suspension clips are zinc based with silver wash, retaining good original finish with honest age patina. The spring-loaded clips remain fully functional.
The straps are constructed on a cotton base, faced to the reverse with tan felt, and to the obverse with machine-embroidered aluminium flat-wire and dark grey patterned stitching forming the distinctive parallel stripe design associated with Deutsche Volkspflege leader daggers. The embroidered surfaces retain strong definition with only light age toning. The steel grommets are plated and show minor oxidation spotting consistent with age. The rear felt covering remains intact and supple, with no structural damage noted.
Historical Note:
The Deutsche Volkspflege (German Social Welfare Organisation) operated under the broader National Socialist administrative framework, overseeing charitable and welfare activities. Senior leaders wore authorised edged weapons similar in construction style to other political formations of the period, though produced in comparatively small numbers.
Leader-grade hangers such as this were privately purchased or supplied through authorised outfitters and are considerably scarcer than SA, NSKK, or standard Heer dagger hangers. Their distinctive flat-wire embroidery and silvered pebbled fittings differentiate them from army or Luftwaffe suspension systems.
Original, untouched examples with correct embroidery and matching period fittings are increasingly difficult to source.
*Condition*
A very good original example. Silver wash remains present across the aluminium fittings with honest age wear and minor surface oxidation to steel components. Zinc clips show typical dulling but retain good finish. All mechanical clips function correctly. The embroidered straps remain structurally strong with only light age fading and minor edge wear. Reverse felt backing shows expected service toning but no significant losses or tears. Please see photographs as part of the condition report.
