*German, WW2, Waffen-SS SS-Flak-Ers-Abt Marked Ammunition Transport Tube & Wooden Transit Crate*

An original Second World War German ammunition transport container consisting of a cylindrical fibre transport tube housed within its original wooden transit crate, bearing a Waffen-SS administrative unit stamp.

The container comprises a dark-finished fibre or composite transport tube fitted within a purpose-built wooden crate constructed from painted softwood with reinforced end panels and internal supports designed to protect the contents during storage and transport. One end of the tube retains its original closing panel secured with a web or cloth strap fastening. Stamped to the end is a circular Waffen-SS administrative mark featuring an SS eagle and swastika with surrounding text. The visible wording reads: “Waffen-SS / Verwaltung / SS-Flah-Ers.Abt.” This abbreviation likely stands for Fla-Ersatz-Abteilung, which translates to Anti-Aircraft Replacement Battalion. So Waffen-SS Administration – SS Anti-Aircraft Replacement Battalion, indicating the container passed through the logistical supply system of an SS Flak unit.

The tube measures approximately 53 cm in length and 12 cm in diameter, housed within a wooden crate measuring approximately 62.5 cm long by 16.5 cm wide. From its size and construction it appears to be a transport tube for an ammunition component or projectile-related item rather than a complete fixed round.

Marked Waffen-SS logistics items such as ammunition containers are less commonly encountered than standard Wehrmacht packing crates and make interesting display pieces for collectors of German Second World War militaria.

Approx. Measurements – Tube length: 53 cm. Tube diameter: 12 cm. Crate length: 62.5 cm. Crate width: 16.5 cm.

History Note:
German Flak (Flugabwehrkanone – anti-aircraft gun) units formed an important part of Waffen-SS formations, providing both air defence and, increasingly as the war progressed, ground fire support against armoured vehicles and fortified positions. Ammunition and projectile components were commonly transported in protective fibre tubes and wooden transit frames such as this example, allowing safe storage and distribution through the military supply system.

*Condition*
Good original condition overall. The wooden crate remains structurally sound with expected wear, paint loss and knocks from storage and handling. One side of the crate has some more severe wood knocks and breaks. The fibre tube shows surface wear and staining consistent with age. The closing panel and strap remain present with signs of field repair and age and use. The Waffen-SS administrative stamp is visible. Please see photographs as part of the condition report.
