*German, WW2, Stielhandgranate M24 Stick Grenade, Original Wooden Handle with Porcelain Pull Bead, Inert*
An original German World War Two Stielhandgranate M24 (“stick grenade”), measuring approximately 35.7 cm overall length, retaining its correct wartime wooden handle and steel grenade head. This example shows clear signs of genuine age and service, with remnants of original field-green paint visible beneath areas of oxidation to the head. The threaded screw-off base cap is present, and the internal pull-cord mechanism remains intact, complete with the original porcelain pull bead housed within the handle.
The proportions, materials, and construction are all consistent with wartime manufacture, with no signs of modern reproduction techniques or artificial ageing. A solid, untouched example of one of the most recognisable infantry weapons of the Second World War.
Historical Note: The Stielhandgranate M24 was introduced in 1924 and remained the standard German hand grenade throughout the Second World War. Its distinctive “potato masher” design allowed for greater throwing distance and control compared to spherical grenades, making it particularly effective in trench warfare, urban fighting, and close-quarters combat. Used extensively by the Wehrmacht and Waffen-SS across all theatres of war, the M24 relied primarily on blast effect, with optional fragmentation sleeves issued when increased shrapnel was required. Original, unaltered examples such as this are increasingly scarce on the collector market.
*Condition* In original condition. The steel head displays partial oxidation and corrosion, including a split and some loss to the rim. Original green paint remain visible. The wooden handle is sound, with surface wear, darkening, and minor knocks commensurate with age and use. The screw cap is present, with internal pull bead and cord retained.
