*German, WW2, Silver Class Infantry Assault Badge - 'Infanterie Sturmabzeichen in Silber', by Sohni Heubach & Co - S.H.u.Co. 44*
Maker marked on the reverse S.H.u.Co. 44
Constructed from a die-struck zinc base with a silver wash, the oval-shaped obverse of this badge depicts a rifle and bayonet beneath a Heer eagle with closed wings, clutching a mobile swastika in its talons. This is surrounded by an oak leaf and acorn wreath, tied together at the bottom. The full-back reverse is maker marked "S.H.u. Co. 44". So it was made in 1944. This is a solid back example with the pin broken off.
This Infanterie-Sturmabzeichen in Silber (Infantry Assault Badge in Silver) was produced by Sohni, Heubach & Co. of Idar-Oberstein. Instituted on December 20, 1939, the Infantry Assault Badge was awarded to soldiers who participated in three assaults since January 1, 1940, fought in the front lines, attempted a break-in with a weapon, or were involved in combat operations on three different days. The silver variant was specifically awarded to non-motorized infantry divisions and mountain infantry companies.
