*German, WW2, NSDAP High Leaders Kreisleiter Visor Cap, Gold Piped, Original Condition*
An exceptionally scarce and highly desirable Third Reich NSDAP Political Leaders’ visor cap for the Kreisleitung echelon (county level), denoting the powerful rank of Kreisleiter or equivalent staff officer. This striking summer-weight example features the correct light brown crown and brown velvet centre band, highlighted with gold piping and cords reserved exclusively for Kreisleitung officials.
The cap retains its original gilt political eagle and oakleaf wreath with enamelled cockade, complemented by the gold cord chinstrap and side buttons, all showing attractive, age-toned patina. The brown vulcanfiber visor is entirely correct and displays only natural lacquer wear from age. Internally, the cap bears honest signs of service use: the leather sweatband is fragile and partly detached, the sweatshield has perished with time, and the lining is marked and soiled. Importantly, a faint RZM-style maker’s stamp remains visible inside, attesting to its originality.
A genuine and untouched period piece, this cap retains outstanding display presence and represents one of the most instantly recognisable symbols of NSDAP authority. Kreisleiter visor caps are among the rarest and most sought-after of all Political Leaders’ insignia.
Historical Note:
NSDAP Political Leaders’ visor caps were authorised under the 1939 regulations and issued in different colours and piping to signify the echelon of service: Ortsgruppe (local), Kreisleitung (county), Gauleitung (district), and Reichsleitung (national).
The Kreisleiter was a highly influential figure in Nazi administration, serving as the party boss for a county, with control over propaganda, local organisation, and the enforcement of party policy. Caps of this echelon are identified by their gold piping and cords, distinguishing them from lower levels. Surviving examples in original condition are increasingly scarce and sought after by collectors.
*Condition*
The cap remains in solid overall shape with evident signs of age and service use. The light brown crown shows fading and light soiling, while the brown velvet band has toned darker with time. The gilt eagle, oakleaf wreath, and cockade are original and well-preserved, though with some dulling to the finish. The gold chin cord and side buttons remain intact and secure. The brown vulcanfiber visor displays lacquer loss and chipping consistent with wear. Internally, the cap shows heavy use: the leather sweatband is dry, cracked, and partly detached, sweatshield (transparent celluloid sweatshield diamond) is no longer present (common with period examples), and the lining is heavily marked and stained. A faint RZM-style maker’s stamp is still visible inside. This is a rare and highly desirable example of an NSDAP Kreisleiter visor cap, retaining excellent originality and strong display appeal. A great find, surviving in honest condition entirely commensurate with its age and service. Please see photographs as part of the condition report.
