On June 21st, 1935, the German Wehrmacht officially selected the Karabiner 98k (abbreviated as “kurz,” meaning “short”) as its standard service rifle, a role it maintained throughout World War II. This bolt-action rifle, chambered in 8mm Mauser (7.92 x 57), features an internal 5-round magazine.

The rifle bears numerous authentic Mauser waffen stamps, including the early down-turned winged Eagles over 63 mark. 1936 was the first year the S/42 secret manufacturing code for Mauser Obendorf was used (in 1938 it was amended to 42) as was the Waffenamt “63” stamp. Mauser, Obendorf was the only manufacturer to produce the K98 from 1934-1945 n(other manufacturers dropped in and out). The serial number "7030" is also an early serial number - the known serial number range is from these early S/42 coded carbines is 67 to 5968I with an estimated production run of 100,000 rifles which were issued amongst the German army, Navy and Airforces.

The floorplate is stamped rather than milled marked with number "17199". The trigger guard is also stamped and missing a locking screw. Both probably put on late war, along with the sight, as part of a war time service.

*Condition*
This gun is in excellent condition and has a great patina, along with the bumps and scratches commensurate with its age and service. It tells a story of war time service. Please see photographs as part of the condition report.
