*German, WW2, Mod.98 (K98) Mauser Bolt Action Rifle, Dated 1944, by Waffen Werke Brunn (dot), Deactivated*
7.92mm Cal, 24" barrel, Serial number 37127
On June 21st, 1935, the German Wehrmacht officially selected the Karabiner 98k (abbreviated as “kurz,” meaning “short”) as its standard service rifle, a role it maintained throughout World War II. This bolt-action rifle, chambered in 8mm Mauser (7.92 x 57), features an internal 5-round magazine.
The top of the receiver is marked with the German war time manufacturers code “dot” for production by Waffen Werke Brunn Czechoslovakia. As soon as Czechoslovakia was annexed by Germany, the factory at Brunn was taken over and K98s were turned out from there, in great numbers, for the rest of the war. Waffen Werke typically marked the full year "1944" rather than partial "44" like other manufacturers'. There are two waffenamts numbered "63" on the right and one on the left. The left receiver wall is marked “Mod. 98”. It is serial numbered “37127” with a waffenamt on the left of the receiver and a cursive "GR" on the right. It is numbered “3083” on the safety lever "3681" on the side of the bolt, the sight is numbered "4845" with two waffenamts numbered "18". Stamped "2719" on the upper band, "37664" on the base plate. Numerous waffenamts. One-piece stock as opposed to the later laminated stock.
*Condition*
The Rifle is in excellent condition and is a great find. Old Spec, Deactivated with working bolt action, Deactivation certificate included. The metal surfaces retains great original blue finish with an excellent patina on the wood surfaces. The stock is fine with numerous small dings and dents and some wear to the elbow. Strap looks like a later addition. Please see photographs as part of the condition report.
