*German, WW2, Mod.98 (K98) Mauser Bolt Action Rifle and Sling, Dated 1945, by Waffen Werke Brunn (dot), Deactivated.*
7.92mm Cal, 24″ barrel, Serial number 6446
On June 21st, 1935, the German Wehrmacht officially selected the Karabiner 98k (abbreviated as “kurz,” meaning “short”) as its standard service rifle, a role it maintained throughout World War II. This bolt-action rifle, chambered in 8mm Mauser (7.92 x 57), features an internal 5-round magazine.
The top of the receiver is marked with the German war time manufacturers code “dot” for production by Waffen Werke Brunn Czechoslovakia. As soon as Czechoslovakia was annexed by Germany, the factory at Brunn was taken over and K98s were turned out from there, in great numbers, for the rest of the war. Waffen Werke typically marked the full year “1945” rather than partial “45” like other manufacturers’. The serial number "6446 a" is engraved on the side of the barrel and top of the bolt. "Mod 98." engraved on the side of the receiver. The sight is waffenampt stamped "26". "0561" on the final barrel band. "I&E" stamped on the sling fastener. One-piece stock as opposed to the later laminated stock.
