A great example of a long sleeve Luftwaffe tropical shirt with two upper breast pockets both with pleats. This is the pullover type with four button front closure. Above the right pocket is an inverted triangle of darker material where the luftwaffe patch was clearly worn. Has shoulder board loops. Pocket buttons are pebbled metal marked GEBR on reverse.
As part of the summer uniform in southern Europe and North Africa, the Luftwaffe tropical shirt was worn under the Luftwaffe M41 tropical feldbluse. Original photos of Luftwaffe pilots and paratroopers in North Africa and Italy suggest it was often worn on its own.
*Condition*
The shirt is in very good service used condition, showing fading and staining from use - probably in a tropical climate as it is sun faded - the patch illustrating the original colour. The sleeve buttons are missing. Left pocket has had two press studs added - perhaps to keep the cigarettes from falling out! There are also two stitches on the central pleat of the pocket - possibly for a badge. There are no size or maker marks. Otherwise good used condition.
