*German, WW2, Luftwaffe Tropical Breast Eagle, Machine-Embroidered Cloth Uniform Insignia*
A scarce Second World War German Luftwaffe tropical breast eagle, machine-embroidered in pale grey/tan thread on a sand-coloured cotton backing. The badge features the Luftwaffe flying eagle with down-swept tail, clutching a swastika, intended for wear on tropical and Mediterranean theatre uniforms, including those associated with North Africa and the wider southern campaign areas.
Approx. Measurements – Width: 8.5 cm. Height: 3.5 cm.
History Note:
Tropical Luftwaffe insignia was produced in muted tones to suit the lighter cotton uniforms worn in hot climates. These breast eagles were sewn to the right breast of the tunic and are strongly associated with Luftwaffe personnel serving in North Africa, Sicily, Italy, Greece and other Mediterranean theatres.
*Condition*
An excellent example with some age toning. The embroidery has good overall definition consistent with age and service use. Please see photographs as part of the condition report.
