*German, WW2, Luftwaffe Silver-Plated Schnapps - Spirits Tray, Engraved Eagle*

A wartime Luftwaffe silver-plated schnapps tray of compact mess-table size, measuring approximately 14 × 14 cm, formed with rounded corners and fitted with four ribbed side grips typical of 1930s–40s continental barware. The centre bears an engraved Luftwaffe eagle, clutching a tilted swastika, executed in a stylised line-engraved pattern consistent with privately commissioned officers’ mess pieces. The eagle engraving remains clear and well defined. A scarce survivor from Luftwaffe mess culture.

Historical Note:
Officers’ and NCO messes within the Luftwaffe frequently commissioned small batches of personalised tableware, including schnapps trays, shot cups, coasters and serving pieces. These were not standard issue but purchased through civilian silversmiths and hotelware suppliers in Berlin, Munich and Hamburg, with the Luftwaffe eagle added as an engraved or stamped embellishment. Such trays were used for serving schnapps (Schnaps) or herbal liqueurs during toasts, promotions and flying-unit gatherings. The line-engraved eagle seen here is a known period style used on Luftwaffe presentation and mess items. Surviving examples are scarce due to destruction, melting, or disposal in the immediate post-war years.

*Condition*
Silver plating with spotting and oxidation consistent with long-term storage. No structural deformation; rim and grips intact. The Luftwaffe eagle engraving remains fully legible. Approx. 14 × 14 cm. Please see photographs as part of the condition report.
