*German, WW2, Child’s Steel Parade Helmet with Decals & Liner — Hitler Youth Example*

A rare original German child’s steel helmet from the 1930s–1940s, made in the style of the M35/M40 Stahlhelm and intended for use by children in the Hitler Youth or for parade and play purposes. These helmets were designed as propaganda pieces to promote militarism among young Germans and were never intended for combat protection.

This example is finished in a distinctive blue-green paint and features both the national tricolour shield decal and the party-style eagle decal to either side. Inside, it retains its lightweight liner made of a simple cardboard/paper band with paper padding, secured by staples. The chin strap is made of thin pressed-fiber material and retains its original metal buckle.

The helmet measures approximately 21 cm across, 26.3 cm front to back, and 11.5 cm tall, confirming its small child’s size.

Condition is consistent with age and use, showing scattered surface scratches, areas of rust speckling, and edge waviness characteristic of these lightweight toy helmets. The decals show wear, with the eagle decal partly rusted over. The liner and chin strap are present but fragile.

*Condition*
Structurally sound with surface scratches and oxidation throughout. Decals show age-related wear. Liner is fragile; chin strap is present with light fraying and corrosion to fittings. Edge is uneven, typical of these lightweight children’s parade models. Please see photographs as part of the condition report.
