LEIG18 7.5cm Incendiary inert shell with charge bag, casing is dated 1944, primer is dated 1943. It has a Z23nA fuze which is also dated 1944. The body is also marked 44.
This is a rare WWII German 7.5 cm round for the Leichtes Infanteriegeschütz 18 (le.IG 18) infantry support gun, complete with its fuse and charge bag. This example dates to 1944, around the time of the Battle of the Bulge. The steel casing is maker-marked "auy," indicating production by Polte-Werk, Grünberg, in 1944. The base of the case bears the inscription "6341st = Kartuschen Hülse des le. I.G. 18" along with a Nazi acceptance mark. The fuse is also Nazi-marked, with "Lelgr z23na 44 (1944)," and the body features the codes "23A IV 44 (1944)." It is rare to find such a complete and original example. Approximately 12,000 of these guns were produced, with many lost during the war.
The 7.5 cm leichtes Infanteriegeschütz 18 (7.5 cm le.IG 18) was a German Wehrmacht infantry support gun used during World War II. Developed by Rheinmetall in 1927, it featured an armoured shield for crew protection. A mountain variant, the 7.5 cm le.GebIG 18, could be disassembled into six to ten packs, the heaviest weighing 74.9 kg, and was typically assigned two per mountain battalion. In 1939, six airborne versions, the 7.5 cm le.IG 18F, were produced; they lacked shields, had smaller wheels, and could be broken into four 140 kg loads. A proposed replacement, the 7.5 cm Infanteriegeschütz L/13, was tested but ultimately rejected in favour of the existing design.
