The famous Broomhandle! The Mauser C96 (Construktion 96) is a semi-automatic pistol Cal.7.63mm. that was originally produced by Mauser from 1896 to 1937 with this specific model (Serial 243814) dating between 1911 and 1915. "Waffenfabrik Mauser Oberndorf A. Neckar" stamped on the frame, and on the top of the barrel. The serial number 243814 is marked twice below the hammer and “814” on the hammer. Crown/U proof mark below the sight and on left of the barrel, which is typical of Mauser firearms made before 1940 when it changed to an Eagle/N proof mark. There is a slot for the stock holster cut into the back strap, and a lanyard ring is present. Comes complete with a wooden stock, leather holster and cleaning tool.

With its long barrel and high-velocity cartridge, the Mauser C96 had superior range and better penetration than most other pistols of its era; the 7.63×25mm Mauser cartridge was the highest-velocity commercially manufactured pistol cartridge until the advent of the .357 Magnum cartridge in 1935.

The Mauser C96, a versatile pistol, found use in various conflicts and wars throughout history. It served in colonial wars, World War I, the Irish Civil War, the Estonian War of Independence, the Spanish Civil War, the Chinese Civil War, and World War II. In China’s Warlord Era, the C96 became popular due to European embargoes on exporting rifles. It was widely copied during this time. In the Russian Civil War, it was favored by Bolshevik commissars and used in the execution of the Russian imperial family. Prominent figures such as Winston Churchill and Lawrence of Arabia wielded the Mauser C96 in battles, and Indian revolutionary Ram Prasad Bismil utilized it during the Kakori train robbery. Additionally, Chinese communist general Zhu De carried a Mauser C96 during the Nanchang Uprising.

*Condition*
Overall the pistol is in good condition. The weapon is deactivated to old spec cocks and dry fire. The makers mark and serial numbers are still clear and visible. Some light pitting in places. The stock does not stay closed and there is some wear and tear to the stitching on the tip of the leather holster, but given its age and service it is all in excellent condition. Please see photographs as part of the condition report.
