*German, U-Boat Submariner at the Periscope, Limited Edition Signed Print with Veteran U-Boat Signatures*
A large monochrome print depicting a German U-boat submariner operating the attack periscope, a dramatic and atmospheric image strongly associated with post-war German naval remembrance. The print is signed in the margin and hand-numbered 676/1000, and further bears numerous handwritten signatures around the image, many accompanied by U-boat numbers, ranks, or service annotations.
The additional signatures are consistent with those of former Kriegsmarine U-boat personnel and were most likely applied at post-war veterans’ reunions or commemorative events. Identified signatories include confirmed U-boat commanders and at least one Knight’s Cross recipient, with further signatures attributed to submarine veterans.
Offered rolled, unframed. Approximately 64 × 48 cm.
Possible Signatures:
The print bears numerous handwritten signatures. Based on legibility, accompanying annotations, and comparison with known examples, the following individuals may be represented, though no formal authentication has been undertaken and all identifications should be regarded as tentative:
Klaus Endrass, Korvettenkapitän, commander of U-567 and later U-3030, Knight’s Cross of the Iron Cross recipient.
Karl-Heinz Moehle, Korvettenkapitän, commander of U-139 and U-493.
Heinz Lampe, Kapitänleutnant, commander of U-618.
Hans-Joachim Schepke, Kapitänleutnant, commander of U-3, U-19 and U-100, Knight’s Cross with Oak Leaves recipient.
Karl Wendt, Kapitänleutnant, commander of U-231.
Paul Herbert, Kriegsmarine U-boat officer.
Further signatures are present but remain unidentified and are presumed to be those of former U-boat crew members.
*Condition*
The print is in good overall condition with strong contrast and no major losses. Some light handling creases and minor edge wear are present, consistent with age and storage in rolled form. The signatures remain clear and legible in various inks. Please see photographs as part of the condition report.
