The Bofors 40 mm Automatic Gun L/70 is a versatile autocannon developed by Swedish arms manufacturer AB Bofors (now BAE Systems Bofors) in the late 1940s as a modernized replacement for the widely used World War II-era Bofors 40 mm L/60. Originally designed as an anti-aircraft weapon, it evolved into a multi-role system capable of firing sabot projectiles and programmable ammunition. While it never matched the fame of its predecessor, the L/70 has been adopted by around 40 nations and was standardized by NATO in 1953, remaining in use to this day.
