*German-made, c.1950s–70s, “Original Bowie Knife” – Stag Handle, Atlanta Import, Tooled Leather Sheath*
This is a classic mid-20th century Bowie-style hunting knife, imported into the United States and marked ATLANTA / FOREIGN on the ricasso. The knife is likely of Solingen, Germany origin, produced for the export market in the post-war decades. This type of stamp typically appeared on imported items post-1930s to comply with U.S. import laws, particularly the Tariff Act (requiring clear origin markings like “Foreign,” “Germany,” etc.). It's not an export marking but an import compliance stamp—used for goods coming into the U.S. The blade is etched Original Bowie Knife in Gothic script and features a polished clip-point profile typical of the style.
The handle is fitted with genuine stag scales, triple brass-pinned to a full tang, and finished with a broad nickel-plated guard. The knife comes complete with its original leather sheath, decorated with a deeply tooled hunting scene of deer and stag beneath a wooded canopy – a motif commonly associated with German export models of this era.

*Condition*
The blade is bright with some scattered dark spotting and minor pitting, particularly on the right face near the ricasso. Etching remains crisp and clear. The stag handle is in very good condition, with natural variation and no major losses or cracks. Guard is secure with some darkened areas at the tang junction. The leather sheath shows signs of wear, with surface creases, a small puncture, and rubbing to the tooling, but remains structurally intact and well-stitched.
