*German, cWW2, Cast-Iron Relief of Adolf Hitler on Wooden Plaque*
A cast-iron side-profile portrait relief of Adolf Hitler, mounted on an octagonal hardwood display plaque. The relief depicts Hitler facing left, with stylised combed hair and high collar detail, typical of the official sculptural representations produced during the Third Reich period. The iron retains an aged dark patina with minor oxidation and light surface pitting. The reverse of the plaque shows a single mounting hole for wall hanging.
Plaque measures approximately 19 × 19 cm, with the relief itself 10 × 14.5 cm.
Historical Note: Reliefs of this type were produced throughout the 1930s and early 1940s as part of the regime’s extensive propaganda art programme. Casts in iron, bronze, or alloy were mounted in public offices, schools, and NSDAP institutions, while smaller domestic examples were made for private display. Following Germany’s defeat in 1945, most such items were destroyed, making surviving originals increasingly scarce.
*Condition* The iron shows mild corrosion consistent with age but remains solid and well defined. The wooden plaque is sound with minor surface marks and one hanging aperture to the reverse. Please see photographs as part of the condition report.
