A German Bundeswehr green wool beret, of the standard pattern issued to infantry and related units. The beret is constructed from dark green felted wool with a black leather headband and retains its original drawstring adjustment. Two metal ventilation eyelets are present to the side, as per regulation examples.
The interior is lined and retains a clear paper label reading “Reckenthäler Inh. Maria Drapala… Köln”, with size marked Größe 57 and dated 2003, which is stuck over an older label. The beret displays the correct Bundeswehr shape and construction, and would originally have been worn with a metal cap badge mounted to the left side.
A solid, honest example of a post-Cold War German Army beret.
Approx. Measurements – Size: 57 (approx. 57cm head circumference).
History Note: Green berets within the Bundeswehr are traditionally associated with infantry branches, including Infanterie and Panzergrenadiere, forming a key part of the field and service dress uniform from the Cold War period through to the modern Bundeswehr.
The internal label relates to Reckenthäler of Köln, a long-established firm specialising in the cleaning and reconditioning of leather and military equipment. Items bearing such labels are typically service berets that have been professionally refurbished and reissued, rather than original first-issue manufacture, reflecting the Bundeswehr’s long-standing practice of kit reprocessing and reuse.
*Condition* Good used condition overall. The wool retains a good colour and shape, with some very minor mothing to the crown and 4 small cap badge holes to the side, as shown. Light general wear and minor linting present. The leather headband remains supple and intact, with functional drawstring. Lining complete with clear label. Please see photographs as part of the condition report.
