~ German 15/16th Century Falchion Sword ~

An impressive and heavy sword with a Bowie type tip, two armourers marks, lacquere string grip and a heavy octagonal pommel.

A Falchion (Latin: falx, "sickle") is a one-handed, single-edged sword of European origin. Falchions are found in different forms from around the 13th century up to and including the 16th century. In some versions, the falchion looks rather like the seax and later the sabre, and in other versions more like a machete with a crossguard. Our one is of the later type.

~ Condition ~

Please refer to the images for the condition. The edge of the blade has seen signs of active use. The binding is complete. The cross guard has a little play. A pleasing light grey patina.

~ Dimensions ~

The sword is 84 cm (33 inches) in total length with a 66 cm (26 inches) blade.
