This particular sword bayonet is highly replicated and has been widely adopted by many countries, such as the United States, Egypt, Belgium, and Argentina. It was primarily designed to be compatible with the French Model 1866 Chassepot Rifled Infantry Musket, which itself was a revolutionary firearm. Production of this bayonet took place between 1866 and approximately 1874, until it was replaced by the French Model 1874 "Gras" Bayonet.

The bayonet features a brass hilt with a spring steel latching mechanism on the right side. The crossguard, made of iron or steel, has a screw-type tightening mechanism on the muzzle-ring and is engraved with the serial number 50180. The lower quillon is designed as a hooked "blade-breaker." The blade, measuring 57.5cm, is made of steel and is single-edged, with fullers on both sides. It has a distinct re-curved shape resembling a "yataghan." The original scabbard is made of rolled black sheet steel and is completed with a ball-shaped finial.

*Condition*
This bayonet is in excellent condition. The blade is near pristine. The grip is in excellent condition with a working mortise button, some rusting on the crossguard. There are no makers marks evident. The black metal scabbard is in very good condition and is a very snug fit. Please refer to the images as a part of our condition report.
