~ French 1866 Pattern Chassepot Bayonet (Impériale de Chatellerault Arsenal) ~
This sword bayonet has a single-edged, fullered blade that reaches 57.5cm in length. The blade reads “Impériale de Chatellerault Arsenal 1866” and is complete with maker’s marks and serial number D 11079.
Recognizable by its long, curved blade this type of sword bayonet (Yataghan) was the most copied; used by many countries including Belgium, USA and Argentina. The French model was designed to fit on the Model 1866 Chassepot Rifled Infantry Musket, which was revolutionary in itself.

This sword bayonet is in great condition with some pitting to the blade (heavier towards the tip) and some very minor marks to the hilt.
